Changing the direction of the pipeline: Like all bends, it can change the flow direction of the pipeline system (usually 90 degrees or 45 degrees).
Variable diameter connection: This is its most unique feature. The flared end is used to connect larger diameter pipes, while the other end (usually a standard size threaded, socket welded, or butt welded interface) is used to connect smaller diameter pipes. It achieves both directional and diameter changes within a single pipe fitting.
Expansion end type:
Mouth type: This is the most common type. The expanded port forms a "bell mouth" or "socket" for inserting the flat end of larger diameter pipes. The connection is usually completed through welding (socket welding) or brazing.
Flange type: The enlarged port may have a flange for bolted connection to a matching flange on a large diameter pipeline.
Other types: Depending on the specific design, the flared end may also have other connection forms, but the socket type is the most mainstream.
Non expanded end type:
It is usually a standard connection form used to connect smaller diameter pipes, such as:
Thread: A pipe used for threaded connections.
Socket welding: a pipe used for socket welding connections.
Butt welding: a pipe used for butt welding connections.
Small size flange: a mating flange used for bolted connections to small diameter pipelines.
Main advantages:
Space and cost savings: Integrating the functions of elbows and reducers (reducers/concentric reducers) into one fitting reduces the number of fittings and welds required for installation, saving space and installation costs.
Simplified installation: It is more convenient than installing an elbow and a reducer separately.
Streamlined design: The flared design usually provides a smoother fluid transition than directly connecting a variable diameter pipe after the elbow (especially in the socket type), reducing turbulence and pressure drop.
